And I’m so glad that today was a holiday, since it meant that I could get a really healthy head start into this, and pack up a nice little “buffer” for the days I run out of steam—for there will be such days, I know it.
One thing is sure: it’s pretty hard for me to shut up my Inner Editor, and it made starting an awkward task, what with the need to resist to the temptation of checking every paragraph and line as soon as I had written them. It got better after the first 2,000 words or so, though, and I hope this will last. Sure, my writing isn’t terrific, and I need to stop at times to grab the dictionary and look up certain words, but at least I write, which is the aim. I think that having done some kind of outlining was a good idea, too; just like with my daily job, I seem to work way better if I know what I have to do for the day and where I’m headed to. If things indeed turn out to be this way, even if I’m to not follow closely said outline, I’ll use this method for my next stories.
At the moment, Tesla has run away with Alt’s cyber-deck, Deanna has discovered who Alt’s “mysterious partner” was and has sent Agents after her, and Miki and Heiji are left in a dark alleyway of the Underground desperately looking for an exit leading to a more secure Dome. Not too bad for a start… I guess.

Impressive word count! The important thing is to get the words down – don’t worry how good it is. It will be a lot better than you think, when you come to read it back later.

Thanks, Debra
that’s exactly what I really want to do with NaNo—just letting the words out, and see where they lead me. i’m tired of never finishing a real novel just because I keep on editing instead of writing the word “END” after the last page. This time, too bad for the inner editor, but she’ll have to shut up. I guess that writing in another language than my native one was a good idea, too; on the firts draft, I tend to be less aware of how much a sentence or a pargaraph sucks.

You’re off to a great start, Yzabel! I can relate to the inner critic who wants to edit as you’re trying to write. Keep up the good work.

Now to hope that the great start can turn into a great going-on
I’m expecting the inner editor to show up again before the end of the week, but I have a baseball bat nearby to smack her on the head.
