A Few Changes Of Scenes

I had to rework some things, to make they fit better. I know I’d better keep that for the editing part, but it didn’t make much sense, and just thinking of it was already irking me, hence the changes.

I get easily frustrated at scenes that I feel should fit in, yet once written, suddenly they appear as useless, or needing to be presented in a very different way. It’s annoying. At least it’s fixed, now.

Monday Update

100,000 was definitely a low estimation for this first volume… However, I’m going to finish it first before trying to reduce it down to an “acceptable” amount of words. I don’t want to start restraining myself and end up losing my momentum just out of fear of “not doing it right”; moreover, 100k is the usual US count, and things are a little different in France. This is why I’m not going to wory my head over this yet.

The two main characters are now introduced, along with the little bit of information that will come back full force in the second and third volumes. I probably didn’t have to place it here, but I also don’t want to bring it in later on without any warning–it feels like a hair in the soup.

First Chapter: Done

First chaper is entirely (re)done.

Given my progression during NaNoWriMo, I suppose I could write faster, but this is going well, as far as I can tell. I have a whole year, after all–or nine months, if I want to follow to Niltoy road (thanks Benjamin for plugging this to me). At this rate? At this rate, yes, I’ll meet my goal, and write this first volume.

First Steps Toward The Wall

So I’ve started planning this month, and it looks like it’s going well so far. In fact, it’s going exactly like I had foreseen: starting by writing the plan allowed me, almost from the start, to realize where I needed to take the story, and this makes everything much clearer for me. At this rate, it’ll be a family stroll in the countryside, not a hike to the Everest. Let’s cross fingers for things to go as smoothly as that for the rest of the novel!

As result, I couldn’t resist, and started writing. With the first 10 chapters written down in my plan, I decided I could reward myself with that. It’s both new and not so new writing, since I basically reworked what I had already done for the first chapter, but it’s different enough for me to consider it as “new” writing.

What This Blog Is Becoming

An update from the front, at last!

* Unsung Heroes was finished in January, just so that you know. I’m now waiting a couple months before going through the edition process and try to make it something worth the read. I was planning to hand it to a few friends for reading, but come to think of it, it DOES need a serious dose of editing first, else I’ll be too ashamed to show it to anyone.

* I’ve joined NaNoWriYe, for the simple reason that with or without it, I’d have anyway taken the year (less if I can, of course) to write the first volume of the trilogy I absolutely need to concretize. I had decided to take January off, do the plan of the first volume come February, and start writing as soon as I have solid enough a base to craft a good story. Joining NaNoWriYe will, just like NaNo, give me even more reasons to be committed to it and finish what I’ve started. Its current title, by the way, is The Wall of Silence, but this one will be all in French, even though I’ll write the updates in English. I need to work toward being published in my own country, after all.

* A few changes to come here: I’ll reorganize the categories, with sub-categories to differentiate things. It’s very likely that I’ll do NaNoWriMo again in 2006, and I don’t want things to be too messy.
