Of editing…

Early this morning, I was announcing in a writing forum I’ve newly discovered that I hadn’t gone back to editing Unsung Heroes in ages, after the hard-drive crash in July that had destroyed my finished, once-edited first draft and had consequently left me completely disgusted about the story.

…Next thing I know, I proceed to open the last saved version I have of the novel, then start printing and editing the first chapters.

Life is ironic, but this is the kind of irony I like!

Last Update Of The Year

75,047 words reached today–and this will likely be the last update I’ll post on this blog before next year, since I’m busy in the next days. Unfortunately, I’m not done yet (although not far from it); this period of the holidays has seen me, as usual, unfocused enough to prevent me from doing any serious writing. With some luck, I’ll write more tomorrow morning in the train. Who knows what might happen in there!

Shall I Make It Longer?

I’ve slightly reworked the string of events in a certain scene, and I’m now wondering if I shouldn’t aim for 80k instead of 75k, because I don’t want to just rush through it without thinking.

Not sure yet, just wondering. In the meantime, I’m getting nearer to the end, with Ruby coming to pick up a fight with Tesla at the core of a security system, while Adrian is running toward the server’s room to take manual control back, and Heiji & Co are pulling the Agents’ tactics against them. Messy, but yummy.

I can’t Believe I’m Slowly Reaching The End

Although the end word count will likely be a little above 75k, I can’t believe I’m going on. No, really. I’m so torn these days between this novel and another idea I want to peruse, that I marvel at seeing myself still writing, against all odds. This makes me glad and hopeful.

I’ve been toying with the idea of changing a few scenes, because looking back on it, I think they suck. However, I swear I will resist this need. I don’t care if there are plot holes left, or if some things have changed since the first time I mentioned them in the story. I just want it finished. The rest, well, will be given as lunch to my Inner Editor after Christmas.

State of the Novel

Current word count:

It’s very weird. These days, I have ideas for other stories, and as a result, I’m itching to start them, putting the rest on the backburner for a short while. Then, as soon as I’ve ranted and written about how lame I am for being unable to finish a novel before starting the next (see the Y logs and other places where I flail myself with noodles), I fire off the word-processor and add 1k or 2k words to the current work-in-progress. I don’t understand myself, but as long as it works and helps me remain focused on said WIP, perhaps I simply should suck it up, take it as it comes, and feel happy?

And I can’t access Zokutou anymore, unless I get through Tor and Privoxy first o_O Go fig, this will probably get fixed by itself in a few days, much like it’s been for every site with which I’ve had this kind of problem. Since I don’t like seeing my own stuff broken, I’m switching to Feath’s counter for the time being.
